Are Vitamins good for you?

Next time you pop down to the local health food store for some vitamins, it may be worth checking out the actual worth of vitamins and whether or not they really do anything for you.

This has come about because despite the billions of people who spend billions of pounds each year on vitamins and supplements there is some research from the University of Washington that suggests that high doses of vitamin E can increase lung cancer in smokers.

Whereas the National Cancer Institute in the US, have found that men who have been taking in excess of one multivitamin per day could have a higher risk of prostrate cancer.

Clearly while this is not an exact science, there is some basis in the fact that taking more than the daily recommended dose of some vitamins and minerals can have a detrimental effect on the person long term health.
