Shops in Cardiff set for £1bn takings

Cardiff is looking to join the big league of UK shopping centres by the beginning of 2009, when a new John Lewis store opens, which will signal the end of a £250 million spending spree on the cities shopping centre.

The St David’s II will add another 93 shops which it is estimated that the total store takings will rise from £930 million per year to £1.1 billion taking them into the UK’s top ten for retail expenditure, that is a conservative estimate, in reality the St David’s II may even slot right into the top six, which would make it the same as Liverpool and Nottingham.

But for the centre probably the best accolade it will achieve from a local point of view, is being the premier shopping centre in Wales, there is nothing like a bit of local competition.
