Save the world, eat less meat

There has been a lot of coverage recently on how cattle create some of the most serious greenhouse gases, which in turn go on to cause climate change. However, could the increase in cattle farming to provide food for the increasing world population really be responsible for global warming?

Well Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) does and he is suggesting that people should consider giving up eating meat for one day a week, with a view of increasing this practice over a period of time.

If this could be done and meat free days become a regular idea, then the truth about the damage that cattle are doing to the environment could become clearer, but trying to make a population whose diet is still mainly made up of meat is going to hard.
