Tesco expands again
Britain’s smallest town is under siege, or so they would have you believe. Manningtree in Essex has a population of just 700 and is subject of a planning application, but this is no ordinary planning application, this is for the UK largest supermarket chain Tesco and there are some people who are none to pleased about it.
The anti Tesco campaigners are mentioning the fact that there are already 11 stores within a ten mile radius, but what they don’t say is that the area has several large towns all within few miles of each other, the largest being Colchester.
Although it has to be said, Tesco have not endeared themselves with the people of Manningtree ever since they took over a high street store and turning into a Tesco Express, it is said that deliveries before Tesco were twice a week, and after Tesco six times a day!
