Sugar v Sugar Substitute

When someone decides to begin a diet normally one of the first things is the replacing of sugar with a sugar substitute as these give a level of sweetness but can help in the dieting process, or so we all thought!

Researchers from Purdue University have been conducting tests which may make people think twice when it comes to replacing sugar with something else. They have found that by removing the natural sugar and replacing it with some else that has less calories actually makes the body crave more and therefore in tests on animals, the ones that were given the sweetener actually put weight on rather than the opposite.

This may account for the reason why some people find it so hard to diet; it is to do with the body’s need for certain types of food in order to remain healthy. It is not yet known as to why the body reacts like this, clearly more research is needed. But a healthy diet is better than an unnaturally low fat, low salt and low sugar diet.
